On Friday, October 13, 2023, Providence Presbyterian Church of Opelika, AL conducted the ordination and induction of Rev. J. Logan Shelton. Rev. Gavin Beers (Burlington, NC) presided and preached, Rev. Robert McCurley (Greenville, SC) gave a charge to Rev. Shelton, and Rev. Jonathan Mattull (St. Louis, MO) gave a charge to the congregation. The presbytery returns praise to God for sustaining this preaching station, and bringing them to this joyous occasion as a fully sanctioned charge with a man called and compelled by God to shepherd them. May He bless Rev. Shelton, his ministry, and this congregation for many years to come.
The General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) raised the Opelika, AL preaching station to a fully sanctioned church in May 2023, and in September 2023, the congregation unanimously called Mr. Shelton as their pastor with the Presbytery of the United States sustaining the call.
“I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me” (Isaiah 6:8).
