Rev. J. Logan Shelton, Pastor
The Rev. J. Logan Shelton began serving the congregation of Providence Presbyterian Church Auburn-Opelika in June 2021 as the the then–preaching station’s stated supply.
The Rev. Shelton is a native of Jacksonville, Alabama, and is a graduate of Auburn University and Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He also completed a course of training through the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) Seminary. He and his wife Madeline live in Opelika and are the parents of three children.
Providence Presbyterian Church is under the oversight of a Session consisting of Rev. Logan Shelton, Moderator; Elder Ike Vernon, Assessor Elder; Rev. Brent C. Evans, Assessor Elder; Elder Charles Greenewald, Assessor Elder. The members of the Session also compose the Deacons’ Court.
Mr. Ike Vernon is Clerk of Session, and Mr. Stephen Huffman is Clerk of the Deacons’ Court and the congregational Treasurer.
The General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) raised the church plant to a fully sanctioned church in May 2023, and in September 2023, the congregation unanimously called Mr. Shelton as their pastor with the Presbytery of the United States sustaining the call. In October 2023, the Presbytery ordained and inducted him as the minister of the church.
The Lord’s Supper is administered in the morning worship service on the second Lord’s Day of June and December. There are communion preparatory services on Wednesday – Saturday evenings the week before the administration of the Supper and a thanksgiving service on Monday following the Supper.
