"Highland Retreat", a church conference facility situated amidst the mountains of Rockingham County, Virginia, west of the Shenandoah Valley, provides a pleasant and comfortable setting, with a range of options for accommodation. It is located about two and a half hours' drive west of Washington, D.C. The location is central to the eastern seaboard of the United States, so that it can be reached the same day when driving from New England, Michigan, or Georgia.
On the upper campus of the conference site, there are two air-conditioned buildings and a campground. The meeting room, dining areas, and our book sales are located at Red Oak Lodge, which also has two dormitory wings. The Mount Everett I campground is across a field from the Red Oak Lodge. Further down the hill towards the entrance to the conference site is the Mountain View building, 0.2 mile from Red Oak Lodge.
Directions to "Highland Retreat"
From Interstate 81 in Rockingham County, Virginia, take exit 257 for Route 259 West. After going 4.5 miles, turn left at a traffic signal to stay on Route 259 West. After another 16.5 miles, just beyond a Chevron station on the right, turn into Highland Retreat on the right, at the first large sign which points to Retreat Center, Mt. Everett, and Red Oak Lodge. Proceed up the road to the buildings. The first large building on the right beyond the office is Mountain View. Or continue on another 0.2 mile to the second camp area on the left, which is Mt. Everett 1, adjacent to the picnic pavilion. Or continue on another 0.1 mile to Red Oak Lodge.
