The Congregation was organized in Montgomery County, Maryland, in 1979, and admitted to the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) in 2003. Congregants are drawn from both Maryland and Virginia, and services are held at Bethesda, Maryland, near the American Legion Bridge over the Potomac River, in the northwestern suburbs of Metropolitan Washington.
Offering Reformed worship and preaching near the capital city of the United States, the Congregation is known locally as Westminster Presbyterian Church. Since 2004 the Congregation has also had weekly worship services at Cumberland, in the western end of Maryland.
In the services at Bethesda, the minister is preaching on the Lord's Day afternoon from the First Epistle of Peter, and in the evening service from the First Epistle to Timothy. The public reading of Scripture is from the Authorized King James Version. There is a catechism class for the children, taught by the minister, following the afternoon service.
